🍷 The 29 wines to drink this fall

Autumn is a vibe, and certain wines just feel right. I can’t tell you exactly why, but Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc, and Jura whites are all autumn wines. You’ll find lovely examples of each among the picks our team assembled for perfect wines to drink this fall. When you feel a slight cool in the air and you’re ready to put away the summertime pool wine in favor of something a bit more complex, these 29 fall wines are exactly what you want.

“Here’s something I know deep in my bones to be true: wine is not a ladder to climb. Not even close,” Jason Wilson opines this week. “Wine is a maze, a labyrinth, one we gladly enter, embracing the fact that we don’t know where it will take us, and that we’ll likely never find our way out. You can simply never learn everything there is to learn about wine.” And what had him thinking about that vastness? A special night of very off-the-beaten-path  pairings in Spain—and a little reminder of the joy of surprise and discovery.

Serge Valentin, founder of whiskyfun.com, has written more than 25,000 whisky reviews. But he tries to keep his priorities in order. “It’s only whisky,” he says. “Whisky is important only to people who make it or people who drink way too much of it. Otherwise, it’s just a funny thing.” The New Wine Review talked with Valentin about the arrogance of scotch, the evolution of distilleries into brands, and what sets true collectors apart from dilettantes.

Kadeau is the underdog of Copenhagen’s New Nordic restaurant scene. But some would argue it’s just as enjoyable for its cuisine and warm atmosphere than the reigning (and soon to be closed) champion, Noma—if not more so. Wines are selected by the general manager, Alberto Segade Menendez, who walked Clara Dalzell through the brilliant but lesser-known bottles that sometimes get overlooked on his carefully-curated list.
